John Belton was initiated in 1980 in Mellor Lodge 3844 (UGLE), founding Senior Warden of Internet Lodge No.9659 (UGLE), member of Linlithgow Royal Arch Chapter No.5 (founded 1768) in Scotland, Sassena Council of Knight Masons in Dublin and Hallamshire College No.8 SRIA Grade VIII in Sheffield..
John is a member of Quatuor Coronati Lodge No.2076 in London, and a Fellow of the Philalethes Society and the Masonic Society in the United States and Vice President of the Manchester Association for Masonic Research. Author of The English Masonic Union of 1813: A Tale Antient and Modern, his main interests are in the nineteenth and especially twentieth centuries, and for exploring those less travelled angles to (masonic) history that are often the most fascinating. He lives in an eighteenth century stone cottage in the Peak District National Park in the north of England.
